Born in Toledo, Ohio, Myrtle Smith settled in Brookline, Massachusetts. She studied with Wilbur Reaser, George Noyes, and Charles Woodbury and at Grinnell College in Iowa. She was a member of the North Shore Association where she exhibited as well as the Boston Art Club.
