| Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Nathaniel Smith was active there during most of his career as a painter of landscape and marine scenes and as an architect. He studied wood engraving in New Bedford, and studied architecture in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts.
He had a partnership until 1921 with Myron Howland called Smith and Howland. His work can be found in the New Bedford Public Library, the Brockton Public Library, and the Fall River YMCA.
