This biography from the Archives of AskART:
"OLo" Alexander Sroczynski was born in Poland. Encouraged by creative parents he was drawing at a very young age, so the discipline of drawing everyday was very natural for OLo. After finishing high school in Wroclaw he studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts from 1975-1980. He earned his master degree in animation and graphic illustrations.

From 1980-1984 in Lodz, Poland he continued film direction and animation studies at the National School of Film earning his PhD. The famous Cartoon Studio in Bielsko-Biala employed him after degreed study. He continued his film career at the Animated Films Studio in Krakow, Poland.

OLo's opportunity came in Rome with a scholarship to continue his film study at Centro Sperimentale di Cinemato Grafia in 1985-1986.

OLo is an international resident, but currently lives in New York City, where he has been based for over 19 years and enjoys the experience and opportunities of the visual arts in America.

His creative films from 1980-1988 include: "Animated Film", "No More War", "Wilhelm Tell", "Transatlantic Ghost", "A Strange Happening", "Medusa", "With a Light", "Visitor", "Okafa", "Nostalgia", "Not a Single Word", "One Can Hear More Than the Grass Grow", "Vice Versa", "8 and 34", and "2013: A Space Odyssey".

"2013: A Space Odyssey" is a parody of Stanley Kubrick's (1968), "2001: A Space Odyssey". The film is 20 minutes long produced in 1987 in Krakow, Poland. OLo's interest in film and animation brought him to America where he discovered a difference in film style production. European productions focused on the artistic rather than commercial. American productions focus on commercial success, which brings a different dynamic to the developing the art of animation. In Europe there are private screenings for many types of film, including the animated films and features for television markets. The peer group reviewing animated films belong to International Animation Society for Filmmakers (ASIFA) of which OLo is a member. This society represents international producers and directors working in the animated film industry.

Olo is a director, producer, filmmaker, designer and illustrator. Some projects in the television broadcast art are: Dannon Yogurt, Canon Camera, AT&T, Krakow Travel Agency, Lot Polish Airlines, Mr. Spim's Cartoon Theater, Lukafilm, HBO, Scrapple, Nickelodeon, and the Cartoon Network.

He created the poster for IBM IntelliStation with 3D Studio Max2. The Krakow International Film Festival honored him in 1999 as an outstanding filmmaker. During three days, 25 of his films were screened at various cinemas in Krakow, Poland. He has won international recognition throughout the world from 1982-2005: FICC Award: XXX International Animated Film Festival, in Oberhausen, Germany: Special Award from the Jury of International Federation of Film Societies; Cultural Award from the Minister of Culture and Arts, Poland; Special Awards from Nationwide Animated Short Film Festival, Poland; FICA Film Festival, Portugal. The Art Society of Old Greenwich CT in 2003 honored him with first prize in graphics media. He is a member of Pioneers of Image Technology for Animation-NAC and Polish Domestic Film Association-SFP.

Few artists have the opportunity for one broadcast documentary about their art, but OLo has three to date: first in 1986, TV Krakow produced "Debut", second in 1996, TV Warsaw "OLo in America", and third in 2000, by TV Polsat-Poland's leading television network produced "OLo".

In 2005 OLo completed a 90-minute script designed for artistic animation. The complete package includes illustrations, script, characters, synopsis, and a production budget. The story is about an American hero, who travels to the nightmarish underworld to save his abducted girlfriend.

OLo successfully illustrates children books. He creates a world of characters reaching for the child's imagination. Not a world of pretend, but a world of imagination in a child's reality. He strives to create an entertainment vehicle for the child and adult, so together they can share the experience. OLo's images are global not bound by any language. This creative style allows him to explore a variety of subjects, mediums and media.

OLo's portfolio of work includes HBO for kids segments for short films and animation. He developed stories for children with different and interesting concepts. Working freelance and independently and through a production studio in New York, he creates animation, advertising and commercial cartoons. This production company is growing and expanding creating ideas for films, books, toys and puzzles. The company develops its products based on the advertising market. One portfolio project is a whimsical parody with cat and mice posing as famous opera characters. Some operas illustrated are: Madam Butterfly, Rigoletto, Aida, Don Giovanni, Tosca, La Traviata, Otello, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Barbiere di Siviglia.

OLo's drawings and cartoons are published internationally. Print publications include: in the USA: Connoisseur, European Travel & People, The New Yorker, The New York Times; in France: Harakiri, Mensuel Charlie, Lui; in Poland: Karuzela, Szpilki.

Aside from the art of a child's world, Olo balances the adult side with his science fiction. The artist statement is "When bad dreams are not enoughwelcome the strange, bizarre, and provocative surrealism" His science fiction explodes with colors and details that require study. Many of his science fiction images are touched with humor and parody.

OLo and his sister Gemma, an accomplished composer and writer, are creating a series of children books, which include books with musical CDs. Both artists are very excited about the development of this work. OLo's expressive imagination creates exciting, colorful and expandable ideas for him to present to the world. OLo enjoys the freedom of working in many forms of animated media.

OLo describes the perfect working environment as one creative idea following through to complete the whole project. This environment is not one of artist control. The total creative process allows OLo to observe and continue to grow.
