Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter. Born in Muscatine, IA on Aug. 8, 1865. At age 15 Schneider became a pupil of Vanderpoel and Grover at the AIC. Moving to Buffalo, NY, he continued his studies at the local ASL and at the ASL in NYC followed by work in Paris at Académie Julian. Schneider taught at the Buffalo ASL for two years before moving to San Diego in 1926. In that year he joined the staff at the San Diego Academy of Fine Arts and taught there until his death on Jan. 23, 1950. Early in his career he painted Dutch and French scenes; later his palette brightened as he turned to Impressionism; while during his last years he used a bold, vigorous brush stroke. Member: Assoc. Artists of San Diego, 1929 (cofounder); Contemporary Artists of San Diego. Exh: Paris Salon, 1911; Buffalo Society of Artists, 1912-22 (prizes); Calif. State Fair, 1930; American Painters & Sculptors, LACMA, 1931; Southern Calif. Artists, 1931; Santa Cruz Art League, 1934; Oakland Art Gallery, 1934, 1939. In: San Diego Museum. PAP; AAA 1913-17; WWAA 1936-41; SCA; San Diego Journal, 1-24-1950 (obit).
