This biography from the Archives of AskART:
With a long, distinguished career in Chicago, Illinois, he was an illustrator, teacher of decorative illustration at the Chicago Art Institute, and etcher, the latter being the medium for which he was primarily known. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Illustrators and National Arts Club.

He was born in Milan, Illinois and studied in Cincinnati with Vincent Nowattny and Lewis Meakin and also studied in Paris. He won the Cunningham Prize for the best group of etchings. He made frequent trips to the Southwest to study and write about Indian life in detail. One of his woodcuts, reflecting this interest, is titled "Snake Dancers."
