This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ray Sexton's art education started at the Ostendorf Art Academy in Dayton, Ohio, and by the time he graduated from high school, he was selling his work.  Then he studied at the Minneapolis Art School for two years and later for two years at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.

He was featured in many art publications including Art of the West July/August 1994, Sporting Classics July/August 1993 and Wildlife Art News November/December 1991.  His paintings were chosen for the Robert Lougheed Award at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame 1995 "Prix de West Invitational."  The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum selected his art for their "Birds in Art" exhibition every year from 1984-1993.  His art was chosen for the top 100 five consecutive times in the "Art for the Park" show and in 1989 and 1991 he won the award for the Wildlife Award of Excellence. In 1993, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Musemn selected his piece for their "Wildlife: The Artist's View."

He was in a three-man show "An Ohio Perspective" at the Cincinnati Art Museum. His art is in the permanent collections on display at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson, Wyoming, and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.  In the Art of the West July/August 1994 article Ray says, "God really gives us these talents, and we're obligated to do the best we can."  In his short time with us, Ray certainly did that.
