| Richard Red Skelton was born in Vincennes, Indiana on July 18, 1913. As a teenager Skelton worked in a circus and continued as an entertainer in vaudeville. By the 1930s he had his own radio show and within a few years had become one of the most popular comedians in the movies. During his leisure he became a competent painter, mostly of clowns. He died in Palm Springs, CA on September 17, 1997.
