The only known illustrations of Camp Lawton, a prisoner of war camp near Millen, Georgia as it existed in 1864 are from the hand of Robert Knox Sneden (1832-1918), a Union private who was a prolific sketcher and illustrator during the Civil War. He was born in Nova Scotia, but was in New York City by 1850. There he worked as an apprentice architect, and in 1861, enlisted in the Union Army of the Potomac.
Sneden saw action at many battles, including the siege of Yorktown and Se (showing 500 of 1759 characters). |
