This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Denver based figure painter Robert Spooner enjoys painting people pursuing their passions whether they be musicians or chefs.  His style is expressionistic, and his goal is to show people engaged in activity that holds their attention.  His studio, new in 2006, is 500 square feet in a structure that once held the Catholic high school.

In 2005, he won the top award for his painting Blacksmith at the Oil Painters of America* Exhibition.

He was born in Roswell, New Mexico and showed early art talent.  For college, he went to Louisiana Tech University in Ruston as an art major.  He graduated in 1978 and then worked as a professional illustrator in Houston and Austin, Texas before moving to Colorado.  For awhile he lived in Boulder and was a designer for Celestial Seasonings tea company, but in 1998, he turned to fine art painting full time.

For further education, he has studied at the Art Students League in Denver and with Colorado painters Kim English and Quang Ho.  He has worked on moving from close realism to a looser, more painterly style.

Biography from Watts Fine Art:
Robert Spooner, a Denver-based expressionistic painter, enjoys painting people pursuing their passions – from musicians to chefs to dancers.  His goal is to show people engaged in activity that holds their attention. Spooner’s art is not about any one approach, but pushing and experimenting with various elements and techniques.

Spooner was born in Roswell, New Mexico and showed early art talent.  He attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston as an art major.  After graduating in 1978, he worked as a professional illustrator in Houston and Austin, Texas before moving to Colorado.  He worked as a designer for Celestial Seasonings Tea Company, but in 1998 turned to fine art painting full-time.

Spooner attended the Denver Art Students League and studied with noted painters Kim English and Quang Ho.  He also finds inspiration from artists Alex Kanevsky, Dan McCaw, Dennis Miller Bunker, Morgan Weistling, Matt Smith, Anders Zorn and Valentin Serov.
