| Information submitted by granddaughter of the artist, Sharon Spreter Lee: Roy F. Spreter was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Gladwyn, Pennsylvania after marrying Easter Patterson. They had two children: June Reta Spreter (Felix) and Roy P. Spreter. Roy F. Spreter also had a studio in the D'es Artiste Building in New York City.
He was best known for his illustrations of various products and short stories that were published in many magazines (Ladies Home Journal, Ladies Home Companion, etc.) Later in his career he was primarily a portrait painter in oils. During that time he was continually experimenting with still-lifes, landscapes and abstract paintings. |
