| A regionalist painter from Salt Lake City, Utah, Ruth Wolf Smith did paintings that reflected her interest in both figurative and symbolic work. She was skilled at political satire including depictions of Richard Nixon, Henry Cabot Lodge, and Lyndon Johnson. Her Allegory of the 1960 Presidential Election depicts Henry Cabot Lodge and Richard Nixon riding an elephan and Lyndon Johnson leading an ass ridden by John F. Kennedy on the road to the White House.
She was married to watercolorist Paul Smith.
