| Born in Glasgow, Scotland on Jan. 26, 1889. Smeaton immigrated to California in 1914 and lived in Oakland and Los Angeles. His last nine years were spent in Santa Barbara where he was secretary of the San Marcos Trout Club. He accidentally drowned there at Goleta Beach on June 6, 1937.
