This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Information for the following biography was submitted by Sandy Stein.

Sandy Stein was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her primary medium is mixed media on board, but she also produces sculptures. Her painting subjects are generally of ethnic inspiration, and often have a Mother and Child theme. Some have related to Native American culture, and most recently she has been working with Vietnam Veterans of Northern California to create a series of paintings, with the Mother and Child theme, based on the mountain people of Vietnam.

A portion of the sales of these works she is contributing to the medical clinics there that veterans are building. Stein creates a definite story element in her works, which also have a three dimensional quality, with details that give a notable sense of reality through textures and expression.

Artist Statement: "My inspiration for my painting has included the great women artists. When I came West from Philadelphia, 25 years ago, I had never done any artwork. Inspired by California's natural beauty, and artists like Grace Carpenter Hudson, my interest in art was born. I often think of Mary Cassatt and Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun and of course, Grace Hudson, as my quiet guides leading an emerging artist to new heights and new artistic adventures."
