| | Born in Maryland in 1845. Sarah was the wife of music teacher Thomas Slaughter with whom she settled in San Francisco in 1859. She worked there as a portraitist for many years before moving across the bay to Berkeley in 1897. An eccentric recluse, her married name was DeLorme at the time of her death there on Nov. 6, 1909.
