Biography from Springville Museum of Art:
| S. (Sidney) Paul Smith, a landscape painter, was born in Salt Lake City. Having studied with A.B. Wright and Lawrence Squires (Smith’s uncle) in 1932, he took additional training at New York’s Art Students League and the National Academy of Design under Leon Kroll and Raphael Soyer.
Returning home, Smith exhibited his work in many shows both here and elsewhere, and painted extensively in connection with the Works Progress Administration. The WPA Federal Art Project in Utah was organized in 1935 and terminated in January 1943.
S. Paul Smith remained a resident of Salt Lake City and was married to fellow painter, Ruth Wolf Smith. |
