Shafer
was active in the last part of the 19th century and was married to Ella
M. Shafer, a fruit and floral painter. Simon was noted as a trompe
l'oeil still life painter who resided in Detroit, Michigan and later
Earlville, Ohio. He also lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a time, as verified by an address given on one of his paintings. He exhibited in numerous galleries with his wife
during the last quarter of the 19th century.
