Solano was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1946, where she still lives and works. She studied at the Art Academy in her native city, where she had her first exibitions, as well as in Madrid. Solano participated in the Documenta Kassel, Germany, and the Biennial of Venice in 1988. That same year she received a National Prize in Sculpture.
While her work in the 1980s clearly showed Brancusi's influence, by the middle of the 1990s it had evolved into the massive, linear sculpture, she is now internationally known for.
