A painter of large-scale landscapes, Terry St. John does semi-abstract work that shows a delight in vibrant hues and bold swaths with the brush. Favorite colors have been Fauve reds, blues, purples and greens. Often figures appear in the landscape.
He grew up in Berkeley, California, and has maintained a studio in Oakland for many years. In the mid 1990s, he became a plein-air painter, going on many excursions with Louis Siegriest, a noted Bay Area artist of the California out-of-do (showing 500 of 1544 characters). |
