Biography from American Design Ltd.:
| Born in Altai, Russia, Viktor Shvaiko grew up surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness. He studied painting for four years at the Novoaltaisk Artistic School. As Viktor continued to paint, he was invited to display his work in two one-person expositions in 1990 in Moukachevo and a group exhibition in Hungary in 1991.
During the civil war, he fled to Italy with his paintings strapped to his back. Viktor arrived there virtually penniless and began selling his paintings on the streets of Rome. He eventually obtained enough money to travel back to a more liberalized Russia and was able to obtain passage to America.
Arriving in New York with little money and less English, Viktor was again able to survive by selling his work. It was here that he developed his penchant for painting little cafes and other intimate places that we see in his current works. His enticing mix of beauty and mystery has drawn the interest and admiration of collectors from around the world.
