This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from Nancy Eyre Grodin-Bender, grand daughter of the artist and from Forest Hills, New York:

Walter Buckingham Swan was born in Boston on July 13, 1871. He showed his first interest in painting when he was ten years old. His family summered at Gloucester, and the New England Coast area was the subject of many of his paintings.

He studied at the Lowell School of Design and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and was tutored by Edmond Winchester Kingsbury. He spent the summers of 1939 through 1942 sketching and painting in Mexico. This resulted in a collection of 75 paintings which had its premier showing at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.

He also painted still lifes. He moved to Omaha in 1931 and painted until his death on November 27, 1966. Some of his paintings were given to Creighton University in Omaha, and during his lifetime, he gave yearly donations of his work to Jobs Daughters' chapters in Omaha.
