| William E. Sharer was born in New Mexico in 1934. Sharer spent his childhood in Roswell, New Mexico. After a tour of duty with the Marines, he enrolled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where he studied under William Mosby and Joseph Vanderbrouck. After a brief period in Taos, he built a studio in Santa Fe. He won the Stacey Scholarship Award in 1971. He currently lives in Farmington, New Mexico.
