| | Born in Marshall County, MS on July 29, 1868. Widowed at age 22, Sanford studied at a business college to learn secretarial skills. She painted from early childhood and worked as a secretary in San Antonio, TX until 1911 when she moved to the San Francisco Bay area. After living in San Leandro and San Francisco for a few years, she settled in Berkeley at 2298 Ashby Avenue and was active there until her demise on Jan. 20, 1954. Primarily a landscape painter, her works are rare.
