|  Zak Smith grew up in Washington, DC and attended high school there. He earned a bachelor's degree at Cooper Union and a MFA from Yale.
Known for his portraits, he has a unique graphic style which he developed as a combination of photography, abstract painting and comic-book illustration techniques.
