The Work of Diederich Kortlang reveals the artist's amazing versatility in many mediums, amongs the few are oil paintings, drawings, prints, tapestries, and murals through out latin America and in Germany.
"I don't have a favorite media, I like to work in different media to explore diffrent possibilities. If I were an actor I would want to play different roles. It would be boring to do the same thing over and over."
" My most challenging assignments have been the giant murals and tapestries. With the murals, I worked with the architects. In a mural you have to work for the building as much as for the mural itself. To stich a tapestry takes me between 3 to 4 months to complete, I first create a small drawing or watercolor of the design, when I am pleased with the design I stretch a canvas, recreate the design on the canvas and begin stiching."
"I only work in two dimensions, this is the ususal way for artist from European schools. First you master drawing, painting, and design, and then you can use any media to express your designs."

"The Artist And The Human Condition"
Diederich Kortlang (1925-1974)
"Since the Renaissance the imaginative artist has been acknowledged as a man of ideas rather than a mere manipulator of materials. Skill is important but the artist's work is viewed esentially as the visible record of his creative mind.
Diederich Kortlang was the embodiment of his liberal arts ideal. He had great technical knowledge and skill. His breadth of artistic expression-painting,printmaking, drawing, tapestry, wood inlay, mosaics and mixed media-was stagering in an age when most artists narrowly focused their work in one direction." -Wendell Mathews- "The Cresset" Nov/1975
