Artist Biography:

Earl Wagner Wharton

Capitalizing upon a love of drawing as a boy, Earl Wagner "Doc"
Wharton decided to teach himself painting in 1965. He remains
self-taught and is a serious disciple of the "purist" watercolor
technique. The only white that appears in his paintings is the
white of the watercolor paper and the colors are acheived by
meticulous layering. His unique style and scrupulous attention to
detail, as well as his careful selection of subject matter, make him a
genuinely special painter in a world of slowly homogenizing
conformity. As Mr. Wharton puts it: "I build my towns brick by
brick, my cliffs rock by tiny rock."

Mr. Wharton has exhibited in many galleries and sold paintings in
Ohio, New York and Montana. Clients include corporations,
connisseuers and other artists. In Ohio he was a member of the
Cuyahoga Valley Watercolor society and is well acquainted with
fellow watercolorists Jack Richards, Kitty Waybright and the
late Marc Moon. Mr Wharton now lives permanently in
Montana, contributing regularly to art shows and charitable
institutions as well as exhibiting in the summer.
