Artist Biography: The lack of an opportunity to gain formal
training in art did not prohibit me from
developing my natural artistic talent.
I would watch artists painting on television. One day I brought a set of water colors, and the rest is history. I started out painting sceneries of landscapes. Later, I was inspired by friends, and moved to life-centered pieces, houses, people, animals, wash pots, outhouses, schools, churches, cotton fields, etc. Today I paint exclusively in acrylics. I was born to tobacco farming parents, in Trenton, North Carolina, near Fayetteville, and my memories of my rural life and surroundings were very vivid. I give credit to the Lord for my gift of memory, and my ability to transport life's colorful experiences onto canvas. I give thanks to the Lord daily as I reflect on my rural North Carolina life. I am guided by God and He is my personal inspiration, and He paints within my soul. I share my God-given talents with others through my "Grocery Ministry". Through this ministry I donate food for the needy to churches. Many of my paintings adorn the walls of many homes and institutions, including the editor of Essence magazine. I live in Columbia, SC with my very supportive husband, Franklin. He is a retired, decorated, Viet Nam veteran. Franklin has converted our garage into a studio for me to work.
