Artist Biography:
Robin Richard Emrich was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1954.
The focus of his earlier artwork has been on the city of Boston and its
environs.  Preliminary work was self-taught and utilized pen and ink and
cro-quill in documenting Boston with drawings of the cityscape, the Public
Gardens, the Esplanade and Beacon Hill.  During the seventies he could be
spotted in these locals with sketch book in hand and a bottle of ink stand-
ing by the ready.  A business degree with a focus on Inforamtion Technolgy was obtained during the eighties which has allowed the artist enough financial freedom to rekindle his artistic initiatives under his own terms (i.e. without starving)  Beginning formal
artistic training in the fall of 1995, at Montserrat's School of Visual Art,
the artist has transcribed his earlier works using the etching intaglio
process under the tutelage of Robert Beauvais and Haig Demarjian.  The
artist is currently refining his use of the etching process as he explores
new subjects from within the local settings of the North Shore.  Use of
an "Open Bite" juxtaposed on detail line drawings is evidenced in some of his
earlier efforts.  The works "Brooksby Farm" (1998) and "Third Meeting House"
(1999) are examples of this initiative.  After retiring from 38 years in the healthcare I/T industry he has taken up residence in Rockport, MA and opened an art gallery (his second attempt!) on Rockport's famous Bearskin Neck.  The artist has begun exploring the richness of the maritime environment and all the beauty Cape Ann has to offer, works of local interest (Motif #1, Bearskin Neck, "The Formidable") are examples of some of his latest efforts.

Artist Statement:

I fell in love with the creative aspect of Pen and Ink drawing at an early age, and have always strived for creating works with fine detail that illustrates the beauty of the both nature and the archictectural wonders of our buildings and infrastructure. I strive for realism but sometimes break out of the confines of such tight regimentation and loosen up with expressive freedom as I work the drawing on my plates, using an awl or scraper to sketch the subject matter with wild abandon!  I have always strived to create Affordable Fine Art, so that the general public can enrich their homes and lives with original pieces of art.  I feel this is far superior to photographically produced products offered in commercial quantities to the public.  I prefer to put my own sweat and energy into each piece, so it is truly unique in character, and is the fruits of my labor.
