This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Harlem, New York, Agnes Muench became noted for her portraits paintings and drawings in charcoal and ink and for silhouettes.   She worked from a home studio, and combined her art creativity with raising children.

Of her it was said:"she was a sensitive and skilled draftsman and was able to accomplish quickly a good likeness and a finished portrait." (368-269) She was prolific, sometimes painting 100 or more portraits within a year.  During World War II, she, without charging, did portraits of Houston people serving in the armed forces.   She also did illustrations for the book, Saddle in the Sky: The Lone Star State by J.H. Plenn.

Between 1912 and 1914, Agnes Muench studied art in Philadelphia where her teachers included Daniel Garber, Henry Bainbridge and John Tidden, whom she married.  The couple moved to Houston, Texas in 1916 where he had a job at Rice Institute.  She did some teaching in Houston, was active in supporting art organizations, and served as Director of the Associated Artists.  She and Tidden divorced, and in 1927, she married Julian Rhodes Muench, a sculptor, portrait painter and muralist.

Agnes Muench actively exhibited her paintings, primarily in Texas.  Venues included the Southern States Art League, Annual Texas Artists Circuit Exhibition and Texas Centennial Exposition.
