| Born in New York City, Barbara Adrian studied at the Art Students League with Reginald Marsh from 1947 to 1954 and from 1951 to 1954 was his Assistant. She also studied at Hunter College and Columbia University. From 1968, she has been a teacher at the Art Students League of which she is a Life Member.
She is a realist with styles ranging from classical realism to magic realism. "In her teachings she stresses the importance of good drawing and the techniques of the Old Masters."
