| Illustrator. Born in Kennett Square, PA on Jan. 11, 1825. Taylor first worked as a printer's apprentice and in 1844 made his first trip to Europe as a newspaper correspondent. In 1849 he was sent to California by the New York Tribune as a writer of articles on the Gold Rush. These were the basis for his 1850 book, Eldorado, or Adventures In The Path of Empire (comprising a voyage to California via Panama; life in San Francisco and Monterey; pictures of the gold region and experiences of Mexican (showing 500 of 799 characters). |
