Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844)
The Danish artist Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen (or Thorwaldsen) is one of the most celebrated of all neo-classical* sculptors. The undisputed successor to Antonio Canova's mantle of greatness, Thorwaldsen approached antique sculpture with the same degree of respect but with less originality.
