| Engraver, Charles Cutler Torrey was born July 9, 1799, in Beverly or Salem Massachusetts. He was the brother of Manasseh Cutler Torrey. He was working in Salem in 1820, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1823, and died there February 9, 1827.
See NYHS "Dictionary of Artists in America 1564-1860". Probably related to Jervis Cutler, another engraver, resident in Nashville at this period. Jervis Culter's father was Mannasseh Cutler.
