| Charles E. Townsend (1836-1894)was a resident of Staten Island, New York. He is mostly known for his paintings of animals, and many of his works were purchased by big-game hunters and other sportsmen.
Townsend was a long time member of the National Academy of Design in New York City, where he exhibited frequently. He was also a member of the Brooklyn Art Association, where he was exhibited. The Staten Island Museum has Townsend's artwork in its permanent collection.
