| Landscape painter Nellie L. Treat was born on May 8, 1861, in Sacramento, California, growing up in San Francisco, California, and in Nevada, where the family resided part-time between 1863 and 1874. She studied with Arthur F. Mathews, Virgil Williams, and Emil Carlsen, at the California School of Design. She was active as a painter in San Francisco, and helped found the Sketch Club, in 1887, for women. The forty years from the 1880s-1920s were her most productive, painting Bay Area vistas. Spec (showing 500 of 1770 characters). |
