| Born in California on Nov. 8, 1872. By 1894 Travis was a resident of San Francisco and active in the local art scene. She studied art at the Mark Hopkins Institute and with Gottardo Piazzoni, and continued in NYC and Paris. At 43 she was doing some of her finest work when she died of a heart attack in San Francisco on Oct. 14, 1915. An Impressionist, she used a palette of bright colors to create scenes that were described by turn-of-the-century critics as "full of sunlight." Her painting s (showing 500 of 805 characters). |
