| Eugene Trentham, whose career was in Austin, Texas, is known as a painter and muralist as well as a teacher. He was born in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, raised in Denver, Colorado,and was a graduate of the Colorado State Teachers College, Greeley, Colorado. In addition, Trentham studied on a Guggenheim Fellowship (1939-1940). An influential teacher was Charles Kassler.
From 1940-1955, Trentham taught at the University of Texas, Austin.
He was a muralist, having completed murals for the East Denver High School and the U.S. Post Office in O'Neill, Nebraska.
Exhibitions included Denver Art Museum; Annual Exhibition of Artists West of the Mississippi, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; The Philips Collection, Washington, D.C.; Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; Texas Oklahoma General Exhibition; Texas General Exhibition; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; Texas Panorama Exhibition, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, and the American Federation of Arts.
