| | Born in Washington, DC on March 27, 1863. Townsend studied on the Monterey Peninsula with Mary DeNeale Morgan while a resident of Oakland in 1902-06. She then moved to Yakima, WA and was a pupil of Ambrose Patterson. A spinster, she died in Los Angeles on Sept. 13, 1953.
