We purchased a painting by George Thurmond on 6-1-85 and it came with the following information:
George Thurmond began studying plein-air painting in 1968 at Delta State College, Cleveland, Mississippi with Sammy Britt, a former student of Henry Hensche. He made the pilgrimage to Provincetown, Mass in 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1973 to confront the teachings firsthand. He has been a devoted adherent of Plein-air and Impressionism for 15 years.
Along with his studies in oriental philosophy and comparative religion, he is also an amateur botanist and an accomplished gardener, raising everything from cabbages to water lilies, his garden being inspiration and source for many of his paintings.
He presently lives and works in the rolling hills of Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, with his wife, daughter, three cats and seven dogs. He is thirty-four years of age.
Thurmond's work is included in collections in Europe, Africa, South America, and throughout the United States.
