H. Ledyard Towle (1890-1973)
H(arold) Ledyard Towle was an American artist and industrial colorist, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1890. After studying art at Pratt Institute*, and at the Art Students League* (under Frank Vincent DuMond and William Merritt Chase), he embarked on what he thought would be a career as a painter of portraits and landscapes. However, as he later admitted, his experiences as a camouflage* artist during World War I changed many of his attitudes, includin (showing 500 of 7255 characters). |
