This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in England on May 28, 1882. Tyrrell began his art career in NYC and moved to southern California in 1917. He was a charter member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and painted murals in the homes of several movie stars including Mary Astor and Will Rogers. In 1930 he settled in San Francisco where he remained. As well as a muralist, he was also a superb horseman and for years rode with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol and often rode with his friend actor Leo Carillo in parades and pageants throughout the state. Short in stature, he wore high-heeled boots, a ten-gallon hat, a long waxed goatee, and an immense diamond ring. Tyrrell died in San Francisco on July 8, 1962. Murals: Chinese Telephone Exchange (SF); Oakland Hotel; Cliff House (SF); Godeau Funeral Home (SF); St Agnes Church (SF).
