Jennie Tomao was born in New York City to an Italian family. She attended the prestigious New York School of Music and Art where she received an Award of Excellence from the Pittsburgh Institute of Art. She has been painting for more than 30 years, honing her classical style to perfection.<
Tomao is known not only for her magnificent landscapes but also for her traditional but imaginative depiction of women and children and her exquisite still lifes.
Her works deal intelligently with the subject matter, and have an intimate, deep and friendly mood. Her palette is both jewel-like and muted. Her use of light is intended to make objects seem enchanted and glowing from within, with a style strongly reminiscent of George Inness.
Tomao's family has many talented artists. She was married to Charles Bragg, world-renowned satirical artist. Their son, Charles Lynn Bragg, is an internationally recognized environmental artist. Their daughter, Georgia, is a gifted still-life artist and an accomplished printmaker.
Tomao has exhibited in Long Beach, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, San Diego, San Francisco, Palm Desert and Tustin, California; Portland, Oregon; Vancouver, British Columbia; New Orleans, Louisiana and Palm Beach, Florida. She exhibited at a family show at the Riverside Museum of Arts. In 1997, she and her son had a sellout show in Japan.
