| Based in Brooklyn, New York, Jim Torok is known for his tiny
"mugshot-like" portraits, oil on birch plywood, many of them four
inches by five inches. Of his work, he says: "I think you
can have as much impact on a small scale as you can on a monumental
scale. . . The face is the most intimate subject. . . People enjoy
looking into other people's faces." He paints from photographs,
mostly of friends including fellow artists. Torok also does
'contemplating-his-navel' (showing 500 of 1298 characters). |
