Johann Heinrich Tischbein. Ä. was born as one of nine children in 1722 in Haina in Hesse and belonged to the first generation of a family of highly talented painter, helped to determine the epoch of the late Baroque, Rococo and Classicism in Germany. Tischbein's talent was discovered early and delivered a Paris scholarship. He was, inter alia, students Carle Vanloo (1705 - 1765) and learned in the five years of his stay in especially the French art of fine portraits in the spirit of classicism. After a stay in Venice by Gian Battista Piazzetta and in Rome Tischbein returned 1751 back to Kassel, where he was appointed a few years later the court painter of the Landgrave Wilhelm VIII., And in 1777 also could act as director of the newly founded Kassel painter and sculptor Academy. Died 1789 table leg at the age of 67 years in Kassel. In addition to historical and mythological subjects, the portrait was one undoubtedly his most prominent genres. He knew how to create within the traditional framework new imagery and balance between representation and private image. The high scenic quality, the technical bravura and the subtle understanding of color combinations were estimated too highly of his time. In the present portrait of a lady, which is, according to the old note on the back of the image to Henriette Elisabeth Richter born Hoop, enter these principles in an outstanding way out: the lady presented to the viewer a fine lace ribbon, which she has just in work; their light, almost bashful smile reflects a mixture of pride and self-understanding. With the pink complexion of the cheeks correspond to the splendor of the stunning pearl necklace and earrings, while the ultra-thin tips of necklines and sleeves emphasize the preciousness of the blue silk dress. Henriette Elisabeth Richter was the second wife of Privy Councillor August Gottlieb Richter, professor in Göttingen and one of the most respected physicians of his time. The couple was among others with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe well known. (MHH)
