A watercolorist and etcher, John Theiss was born in Zelienople, Pennsylvania on September 20, 1863.
Theiss received a degree from Concordia College in Fort Wayne, IN in
1882 and graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in St Louis in
1886. He was a Lutheran minister in Madisonville, OH (1886-89),
Portland, OR (1889-93), and Santa Rosa, CA (1894-1904).
Theiss began painting in 1901 and remained a self-taught artist except
for ten lessons with Lorenzo Latimer (showing 500 of 1542 characters). |
