The following information was provided to us from the Academy of Arts and Letters in 1957:
John Williams Taylor was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1897, and studied at the Art Student's League, as well as with Boardman Robinson, J. Francis Smith and Stanton MacDonald Wright.
Among his awards are a Grant of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, 1948, a Guggenheim Fellowship, 1954, and prizes from the Baltimore Museum of Art, American Watercolor Society, (Gold Medal of Honor, 1949) and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. He has exhibited nationally and his work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art.
