|  As the son of sculptors Gene and Rebecca Tobey, Joshua Tobey spent a lot of his youth in foundries. It wasn't until the artist was in a college art class that Tobey, who was majoring in recreation, considered becoming an artist. Influences from his childhood steered him to sculpture. Tobey apprenticed with his father and artist Lincoln Fox after graduating with a bachelor of fine arts degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.
