This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Note from Allan I. Kroll:

Subject: Oil Crayon Painting
Comments: I purchased a rather unique and meticulously crafted abstract oil crayon painting directly from the artist and was able examine her other oil crayon paintings, which at that time numbered about a dozen. I think that it is important to note that Karen is also a painter in the unique medium of oil crayon.

Biography from Chemers Gallery:
Karen Thayer has been creating ceramic work for over twenty-five years and is adept at throwing, hand building, and various glazing and firing techniques.  Her work ranges in form, color and texture, from the serene to the whimsical.  Favoring the vessel as form, she hopes to translate her clay-working into a poem of the physical, inviting the viewer to experience the objects through touch as well as sight.

She has exhibited her work with galleries in Ohio, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, and California. Karen has been showing with Chemers Gallery since 1996.  In addition to the making of her studio work, Karen teaches at several Southland schools. Currently, she teaches ceramics for Coastline College, Marymount College, and the Palos Verdes Arts Center.  She has also been a featured guest artist at Biola University, Concordia University, Golden West College, Leisure World Institute, and at the 1998 Los Angeles County Fair.

A Southern California native, she earned her BFA from Syracuse University in 1983, and her MFA from The Ohio State University in 1986.  She now makes her home and studio in Costa Mesa, California where she lives with her husband, a sculptor, and their two dogs, Ella and Ruby.
