This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Louis Tremblay was born in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, in 1949.  He attended University of Quebec in Chicoutimi (1980-85) and furthered his studies in art history at Laval University in Quebec City (1985-86 and 1991).

Although Louis Tremblay is a self-taught painter, he grew up in an environment that led him to paint at a very young age. Tremblay's father developed a close friendship with painter René Richard, whose encouragement and support gave Tremblay the confidence to launch his artistic career.

In 1969, he was the recipient of the Grand Prix du Symposium de Baie-Saint-Paul, a six-week trip to France. Tremblay quickly established his reputation by holding thirty exhibitions throughout Quebec. He is a member of the Institute of Figurative Artists.

Tremblay works with different media such as oil, pastel, watercolor and charcoal and his subjects include semi-abstract landscapes, and rural scenes, particularly in Baie-Saint-Paul, Kamouraska, Gaspesie, etc.  Tremblay developed a personal, contemporary mastery of figurative painting that often borders on the abstract.
