| Born in San Francisco, CA in 1876. Lucia was the sister of artist Kate Chandler Thomson. She followed a journalistic career at the turn of the century, and helped publish the only newspaper printed in San Francisco on April 18, 1906 when the city was destroyed by earthquake and fire. Following the disaster, she was a reporter for the Boston Globe until 1908. In that year she married William Neelands and settled across the Golden Gate in Mill Valley.
