Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter. Born in Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 11, 1916. Tomkins studied at USC under Sample and Lutz. Leaving California in 1939, she then moved to Seattle to join the art department at the University of Washington. About this time she married James H. Fitzgerald and settled on Lopez Island, WA where remained until her demise on March 14, 2002. Member: Calif. WC Society; Laguna Beach AA. Exh: LA Co. Fair (Pomona), 1938; LACMA, 1939; SFMA, 1939; Nat'l WC Show (Illinois), 1939; NY World's Fair, 1939; SFAA, 1940; Seattle Museum, 1941 (solo); Riverside Gallery (NYC), 1940s. Invw; WWAA 1940; Seattle Times, 4-25-1982; SS.
